Our preschool classrooms have the full Montessori curriculum. Materials guide children in self-discoveries and critical thinking. In the prepared environment, children work independently and in small groups. Students follow a specific order for each lesson. Materials are arranged on the tray in the order for the child to complete. With calm music, engaging curriculum, and grace & courtesy: children build concentration for the task in front of them. Whether the activity is scooping and pouring coffee beans, polishing a shoe, sweeping pom poms, watering plants, cutting fruit, building a Pink Tower, tracing the countries of Europe or counting into the hundreds with the Thousand Chain: children are strengthening their coordination. As children take ownership of their classroom and education, they gain independence. Montessori Teachers refer to this as O.C.C.I. – order, concentration, coordination, and independence. Once the child has these skills underway, they are free to learn anything.
